What Type Of Air Conditioning Unit Is Best For You?

When having air conditioning installed there are a few options to consider

The main consideration is how often are you going to use it? If you are using a air conditioning system for summer cooling only then a low specification unit with less detailed features maybe for you. There is a major difference in price between a basic entry level air conditioning heat pump system with basic features and a high specification system geared for "all year use" commercially orientated environments. The low specification units usually don't require these features as they are for a single use applications. More advanced heat pump air conditioning systems have as standard for example a 24hr timer so there is no need for staff to have to turn equipment off at night or turn on in the morning with multiple event day schedules. The more expensive systems may offer a long pipe run option for supporting air conditioning equipment in a tower block building with 50 meters of pipe length for example or a BMS building management interface option.

Quality systems have superior mode settings for heat/cool/fan/dehumidify/auto. The automatic feature which lets you set the temperature you want and the unit will change between heat and cool automatically according to the set temperature. This feature seems to work best on the more expensive manufactures who aim for a 1 DegC differential in temperature. Most air conditioning systems offer a 3 years warranty and because they have a higher coefficient they usually have an ECA listing (Daikin air conditioning heat pumps only).

Air conditioning types, wall mounted, cassette and ducted

Number One Rule For Choosing a Bedroom Air Conditioning Unit

Noise levels. If you are thinking about air conditioning a bedroom it is advisable to purchase a unit with a low noise Db level on the indoor unit. Whisper quiet is considered to be 25 Db and a quiet office 40 Db. Some manufacturers have made great efforts to reduce noise on the indoor air conditioning unit with some actually having a whisper quiet option on the controller.

Rule Of Thumb Considerations For Air Conditioning Your Home

Air conditioning for your home use can vary in price considerably depending on the type of unit you decide on. If you are looking to have a totally concealed air conditioning system for a large open plan area or entire floor area, then you may want a ducted system or cassette air conditioning unit. These units require a void of around 300mm above the ceiling, take longer to install and require more installation materials when compared to a wall mounted. They can be more costly when compared with wall mounted air conditioning but provide an unobtrusive way of air conditioning any environment. Wall mount units work out without compromise to be an effective and cost effective way of air conditioning, with a new range of artist air conditioning units on the market from manufactures such as Lg's Artcool range , Panasonic Etherea, Daikin Emura and Mitsubishi Electrics Zen, the look and style of any room doesn't have to be compromised, they may even be enhanced. As always, noise is worth taking into account

Energy Efficient Inverter Air Conditioning Heat Pump Technology

The latest air conditioning systems are some of the most efficient ways to heat an area. It is worth taking into account the C.O.P (coefficient of performance) of a unit. The higher it is the more efficient it is. If a unit has a C.O.P of 5.4, this mean that it will achieve 5.4kW output from a input of only 1kW. This reduces electricity usage when compared with the alternatives. Inverter air conditioners are not new to the air conditioning industry having been around for +10 years now. The technology has now been miniaturized and manufacturing costs have fallen to make the technology more affordable for the air conditioning industry.

An inverter air conditioning system controls the compressor electronically by altering the hertz (frequency) it receives.  I.e.  if the area to be air conditioned requires 50% power of the air conditioners compressor as it is close to reaching the desired temperature, the invert will reduce the frequency to 25Hz (UK  50hertz ) thus running the air conditioner compressor at 50% without a need to shut the air conditioner compressor off. It makes for an air conditioner with close control on temperature and reduces electrical requirements by, in some cases, 60% as there is no inductive load associated with fixed speed systems. Some units now have a start current of <1 Amp.

R32, R407c, R410a, Why Does This Refrigerant  Matter?

Gases get phased out over time so it is important to consider if you are thinking for the long term. Air conditioning system's now run on three main types of refrigerant gas, R410a,  R407c and R32 with much older systems running on R22 (which was phased out in manufacture in 2004 and band for service use in 2015). R410a is 40% more efficient than the older R22 and R407c gases, it also is non ozone depleting and is easy to acquire where older gases are now being phased out. R407c is a non-chlorine based refrigerant refrigerant but it still has greenhouse properties, it will be available for use in certain applications for at least 5 years. R32 is the latest refrigerant on the market, released in 2015, the first manufacture to produce and sell a R32 product in the UK was Daikin, They continue to try and pioneer its use having bought various gas manufactures in 2015 like Solvay. Without doubt R32 will be used in most air conditioning applications within the next 10 years.

Portable Air Conditioning Units

There are two types of portable air conditioning units on the market. One is the split type portable system which has a flexible pipe assembly which connects the inside of the portable air conditioning unit with the outside unit. The outside part is usually the fan and condensing coil (heat exchanger) and is the hot side of the portable air conditioning system. These systems are effective but generally work out more expensive than mono-block portable air conditioning units. The mono-block portable air conditioning unit is a stand alone portable system which has the condensing coil (heat exchanger) integral within the assembly of the unit but separate to the evaporator coil. This portable unit has a flexible duct usually 100mm in diameter which expels the hot air to the outside of the building. These systems are very popular portable air conditioning unit.
